PROGRAMMED DANCE
SOCIAL ICE DANCING SESSION
(offered
during September-June)

SCW welcomes
ice dancers, pre-preliminary through international, at its Social Programmed Dance from
September through May on Monday nights from
8:45 to 9:35 PM at NO CHARGE.
All members and non-members are welcome and
it does not count toward your number of skating sessions per month.
Assemble prior to the start time in the snack
bar for introductions and to see the dance cards. For directions on
getting to the rink, click here.
After a 5-minute warm-up, we play 26 different compulsory dance tunes ranging from
the Dutch Waltz up to perhaps a Viennese Waltz or the Blues. Attendees
skate with each other, and there are usually as many men as there are women.
Coaches are also on hand for dances at a small fee. After the
dance there are refreshments and plenty of conversation.
Whether you have just mastered the Rhythm Blues or you can do the Golden
Waltz, you are welcome to come to this weekly highlight event at the premiere club
for ice skate dancing in the Tri-State area.
Here's what skaters are saying
about the Programmed Dance sessions:
"For over 30 years, the
Programmed Dance session has been the most important skating hour of
the week for me. It has forged the community that characterizes SCW
as a "club" rather than merely a sports center or ice rink. SCW club
members became my family when I was down."
"Programmed Dance is
truly a highlight in our week...and exhilarating night of fun to
skate with fellow ice-dancers and coaches, the opportunity to enjoy
friendships and great food, and an event that keeps the beautiful
art of ice dancing alive and ongoing!"
"Programmed Dance provides
time to interact with good friends who enjoy ice dancing as much as
I do."
"Programmed Dance allows
me to skate with partners with a wide variety of levels and
proficiency."
"Programmed Dance is a
time for me to practice the things my coach has been trying to teach
me."
"Ever since my coach
taught me the first three dances and dragged me to Programmed Dance,
it has been the high point of my week every week."
"Programmed Dance is my
weekly pop quiz. It tells me if I really learned what I drill on in
ice dance lessons."
"Programmed Dance is
pure skating, but also the truly social event I have at SCW."
"The warmest feelings I
have for my fellow skaters on the cold, cold ice are at Programmed
Dance."
"It's always
enlightening--and sometimes humbling--to dance with someone other
than your regular coach!"
"The dance session is a
great opportunity to meet other dancers and share their passion for
this sport. Dancers take lessons from the coaches before and after
the session. Therefore, the dance session is an excellent way to
show what we learned. The dance session helps me maintain a
healthier lifestyle, reduces stress, improves my social life and has
an overall beneficial effect o the quality of my life. It is the
highlight of my week and I look forward to continuing this
experience."
"Programmed Dance was my
introduction to ice dancing and an opportunity to build friendships
that are important to me. I really look forward to Programmed Dance
and I plan to rejoin SCW to expand my ice dancing time in my
approaching retirement years. Since my home club does not offer this
venue for ice dancers, I encourage the SCW Board to keep the session
on the Club's schedule and keep it open to the outside world. I want
to express my gratitude to SCW for providing this extraordinary
Monday night session for the regional skating community."
